The governor seems ready and willing to sign the Cannabis bill right away. Why hasn't she signed HB177 yet? If her signing pen is ready for Cannabis, why not homemade food which will benefit all citizens of NM? I do not know. I'm outraged at this eagerness to sign a bill for pot but not a bill that would benefit all of NM; especially those looking to start small businesses and make a living! Any bill not signed by April 8th is effectively vetoed and does not become law. I think this is an opportunity for the governor to show us she cares about the little people and not just big business like cannabis.
Please, e-mail the governor and strongly encourage her to sign HB177. The Homemade Food Act will help all citizens of NM whether you are a small business owner or a consumer looking for healthy alternatives to what you find at the grocery store and Wal-Mart. It will ask for a subject, go ahead and label it "social issues" because these types of bill typically benefit low income single mothers, immigrants and retirees. In NM, it would benefit Native Americans (effectively banned under current laws) and everyone in Albuquerque (banned from cottage food sales completely).

I was asked to write an article documenting the journey to Food Freedom in NM. This is it:
